Best Packers ever?

In a PackersNews.com poll asking readers which Packers team is the greatest of all time, this year's undefeated squad received 42.7% of the vote among 7,349 respondents. But there was a catch.

The 2011 team, which is off to an 11-0 start, was voted best ever on the premise it goes on to win the Super Bowl.

Locked in a virtual dead heat with this year's team was the Packers' 1962 squad, which finished 14-1 on its way to winning the NFL title. That team received 42.6% of the vote.

Other Packers teams receiving votes: *The Packers' 1996 Super Bowl champion that finished 16-3 under Mike Holmgren, with 11.0% of the vote.

*The Packers' 1929 NFL champion squad that completed a 12-0-1 record, with 3.7% of the vote.

Should this year's team become the first in NFL history to complete a season 19-0, can there be any debate it would go down as the greatest of all time?

Some might argue that the flaw in this year's team is that the defense has consistently given up big plays and big yardage and hasn't always been dominating. Yet, can there be an argument against a team that never loses a game?

My biggest surprise is that the 1962 Packers have something like 11 Pro football Hall of Famers, and they are not on the list. Considering that the 1962 team was almost fifty years ago, and the 1929 team - what? - Eighty-two years ago. There might be not enough respondents were around fifty years ago, much less eighty two. If most people never saw those teams, how could a reasonable comparison be made? Besides, the game has changed so much through the decades, comparisons are almost impossible. I would guess that if a modern person could see how football was played in 1929, they'd hardly recognize it.

How could this be a meaningful poll?
