Though Jamaica has been known throughout the rest of the globe for its contribution to music particularly reggae, ska, dancehall, and rock steady, this sunny Caribbean island is also home for two world famous sprinters --- Usain Bolt and Assafa Powell. Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt is a famous world record holder and still the reigning Olympic gold medallist in three events namely the 100 meter, 200 meter, and, alongside his teammates, the 4X100 meter relay event. Due to his unassailable achievements in athletics, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt received, in two consecutive years, the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award. This was in the year 2009 and 2010.
Albeit the success of Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt in world Olympic sprinting events, he also shares equal passion in other endeavors particularly playing football, dancing, and DJing. His love for music was showcased when, in 2010, he played an all reggae DJ set for a very appreciated Paris party crowd. Indeed, being known more as a world famous Jamaican sprinter USain Bolt displays multiple talents which make him more endeared to the his fans worldwide.
The achievements printing goaded the media to dub him as Lighting Bolt --- a moniker that he rightfully earned due to his amazing feats in the sport. The career of Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt is overflowing with so many highlights that every new event tend to outshine the previous ones. Throughout the beginning of his career, he was known to break previous sprinting records of many equally superb athletes. For instance, he broke the 200 meter Jamaican record of sprinting superstar Don Quarrie. His first world record breakthrough, however, was in 2008 at the Beijing Summer Olympics. There, he earned the prestige of being the first athlete ever to bag three events in one Olympic event. In 2009 World Championships, he again proved that there is no stopping to his amazing feats in sprinting by holding both the 100 and the 200 meter Olympic and world sprinting event titles.
Probably the worthiest successor of Bolt is another Jamaican athlete Assafa Powell. This 28-year old wunderkind put Jamaica in the map of world-class sprinting by breaking the 2005 100 meter world record. Despite Powells achievements in the sport, the media cannot help but compare him to his rival, friend, and fellow Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt. By breaking Bolts sprinting record by 9.78sec in the 2011 World Championships, Powell proved that he is in a class of his own and yes he is a huge threat to Bolts throne.
