Olympic Triathlete Paula Findlay Competes Sick and Her Doctors Are Unaware

It's nothing short of astonishing, that an Olympic triathlete who is racing very poorly, training poorly and admits she feels 'sluggish' and is medically sick, could compete at the Olympics and none of her doctors or support staff acknowledged it or knew of it.

The embarrassing situation out of Canada, involves Canadian pro triathlete, Paula Findlay. Findlay is a world class ITU triathlete, who like most Olympians, has an extensive support staff consisting of medical and athletic personnel. In an amazing turn of events, Findlay recently was training in Guelph, Ontario and was still not feeling well. She gets a battery of tests done and it's discovered she has extremely low iron levels that would have a drastic effect on her performance. Findlay was the last finisher in the 2012 London Olympic Games and she was crying as she crossed the line. Doctors in Guelph then discovered that tests that were run in May also indicated she had drastically low iron levels.

The executive director of Triathlon Canada, Alan Trivett, is conducting an investigation to find out exactly who knew what and when. It's amazing, Findlay is not feeling well and tests come back indicating low iron levels are the reason and nothing is done. What makes this so surprising is that anemia (low iron levels) is easily treated and yet her doctors at the time, or whatever personnel were responsible, did nothing to address this.

It appears this traces back to an injury Findlay developed prior to a World Cup race in the summer of 2011. This past summer, Findlay and her coach stopped working together, which complicates Trivett's job somewhat. Simon Whitfield, a triathlon legend in Canada, has rallied to Findlay's side, saying, "I'm not saying people should be fired, I'm just saying they should stand up and say 'that's on me'..."

Trivett is taking this very seriously and said, "Triathlon Canada surrounded Paula Findlay with a team of dedicated individuals, all of whom, were committed to help Paula achieve excellence in London. Post-Olympics, Triathlon Canada will work collaboratively with our team and partners work to improve our injury management and athlete preparation protocols as we all look back at Paula's preparations for the Games, in order to ensure that we continue to provide nothing but the best possible support for all our athletes." This sad incident is shining a poor light on the Canadian Olympic program and Triathlon Canada is determined to get to the bottom of it.

This article is for all the teacher and coaches out there teaching kids. I have been teaching kids for more then 12 years and I love it! I can't think of any other thing else, I would want to do. My mission in life, is to introduce tennis and touch every kid that I teach. Also to help them find themselves and become all that they can be. How about you? Do you have a passion for teaching kids? Does it show when you are teaching them? We as teachers and coaches,are the most important people in the education system, because we are shaping the future, so we need to make sure, that we don't let any kids get left behind. Its obvious that this the case right now, going on across the world. Back to you, give your heart to your kids and let them know that you believe in them. Always encourage them to do their best and if they don't succeed, just have them try again, until they do. This should help them to develop a strong willpower, which is one of our goals we should have as teachers. Combine this with having a positive attitude and you will be giving these kids a head start to a successful career. Lets focus on getting the job done and making sure we are leading by example, the kids learn better by seeing, then hearing, so lets lead. What will happen to is the kids will turn into leader by imitating us. I call that a win win situation, for all of us. Its all about your passion, SHOW IT,LIVE IT, BE IT. The problem now is that i don't see a lot of teacher teaching kids with passion, so as a result they are turning out a lot of passionless kids. I put the blame on the people doing the hire, they need to hold the teacher accountable and provide more training for them. Also to the teachers if the power that be, don't give you the resources you need go get them yourself. Take charge of your teaching career for the kids. The formation varies according to the part of the lines attacked and the players receiving the ball for a run or a kick. All the player, except the center and the quarter-back, can run with the ball from a scrimmage. Each play is directed at one of the spaces between the rushes, or outside the end men. A good team will have 30 - 45 different plays with a signal for each play. The side having possession of the ball must advance it 5 or retreat with it 20 yards in three trials, or surrender it to its opponents.

The team which has possession of the ball are not allowed to catch hold of their opponents with their hands; if any one does this it is holding, and the team surrenders the ball as a penalty. The members of the other team may use their hands. The head, shoulders or hip is used when the hands are not allowed. When the teams face each other for a scrimmage, if anyone steps over an imaginary line drawn through the centre of the ball and between the two teams, he is off side, and this is punished by surrendering the ball, or losing several yards, according to which side transgressed. Penalties are also inflicted for various other things which can be found fully explained in the rules.

When the ball is carried by one team over its opponent's goal line, the result is called a touchdown, and counts five points. The winners bring the ball back into the field as far as they wish, and try to kick it over the cross bar and between the goal posts. If this is done the result is goal, which counts one point more.

If the ball is dropped on the ground and then kicked over the cross bar and between the goal posts during the play, the result is a goal from field, and counts five points.

When the ball is held on the ground by one player and kicked by another of the same side it is called a place kick. If the ball goes over the bar and between the goal post it count five points.

A safety is made by the side which has possession of the ball touching it down behind their own goal line, to prevent opponents doing so and counts two points for the opponents.

The officials are a referee, an umpire, two or more timers, and two linemen. Lafeber shoots career-low 63

That broke by one shot the 36-hole record held by four others in the 10 years the Scottish Open has been played at Loch Lomond. But that hardly made him the favorite on the weekend.

Nineteen players were within five shots of the lead, playing a course that has rarely been this easy.

"Every player has a chance," Cabrera said after closing with two good par saves, including a 30-footer on the 18th for a 67. "Every player can make a 62 or 64 in weather like this."

Ernie Els, playing for the first time since the U.S. Open, drove the 345-yard 14th green for the second straight day on his way to three straight birdies as he tried to get into contention. He wound up with a 66 and was six shots behind, knowing what it would taketo win.

Oberholser and Maggert can still get the one spot availableunder the same provisions at the John Deere Classic in Illinois.Maggert left a voicemail message saying he wasn't aware that he hadbeen passed up in the ranking for withdrawing, "but it doesn'tsurprise me that the R&A would do something goofy."
