Ferrer defeated the World No. 4 champion Murray on the clay court in 6-4, 6-7 (3/7), 6-3, 6-2. His outstanding talent and powerful intensity throughout the match was seriously a challenge for Murray to tackle. The loser had a number of chances to pass through the hardest hurdle but he broke serve five times and ended with 59 errors which resulted in a match out of his side.
According to him, Ferrer has always been a strong opponent for him because his maestro strokes are really powerful to handle perfectly. This is the first time for Ferrer to be in the semi-final of French Open. After lagging in the first game, Murray gave an impressive performance in the tie-breaker to level up his situation. The fifth game was also going in a balanced way of 3-3 but then Ferrer bounced back with his fabulous strokes to turn the match towards his side. Now on Friday, there is the toughest challenge waiting for Ferrer when he will play his maiden semi-final against Nadal.
In the other match of the day, Rafael Nadal smashed his Spaniard opponent Nicholas Almagro in 7-6 (7/4), 6-2, 6-3 to make one step forward towards his seventh Grand Slam championship title at Roland Garros. 2005 was the first year for Nadal in this clay court and since then this was his 50th win in this ground. He only lost one match here in 2009 against Swedish player Robin Soderling. Nadal is looking forward towards Sunday match and a win on that day will make a record in tennis world. If that happens then, he would be the first tennis veteran to win seven Grand Slam titles in French Open. Moreover, this would also be his 11th title for Grand Slam.
After this win, on this coming Friday, again two Spanish will battle to get into the final. According to past records, among all their past meetings on this clay court, the only time when Ferrer got over Nadal was in 2004 in Stuttgart. Moreover, these two tennis starts met 15 times all together and among those 15 matches, Nadal won 11 times. So, in the coming semi-final also, it is expected that Nadal will dominate the match but it can also be said that Ferrer is also not too far away from Grand Slam championship title as his consistency and highly skilled strokes smoothened his way all through this tournament.
