Aussie Geoff Ogilvy putting on a Masterclass at Victoria Gol

The hometown hero shot the lights out of the front nine to be 12-under after 10-holes in the third round.

Ogilvy mounted his charge with an eagle, birdie, birdie start before dropping a shot on the par four fifth hole. But the Victoria member rallied with a string of birdies to move shots clear of Englishman Ian Poulter.Titleist AP1 712 Individual Irons and Wedges

Poulter is 10-under after a steady start to the third round.

But all eyes are on Ogilvy, the rampaging Aussie on track to card one of the finest rounds in Masters history with 29 on the front nine.
The home-course favourite needed only three holes to erase the four shots overnight deficit on leader Ian Poulter.

Ogilvy smacked a tee shot to less than 2m from the flag at the 233m par-four opening hole and drained the eagle putt.

And he jumped to within one of Poulter with a Titleist AP1 712 Individual Irons and Wedges at the second to further fuel his brilliant start.

Ogilvy's here-I-come message was emphatic as picked up another shot at the next hole to be joint leader at nine-under

It was again almost perfect scoring weather with only a gentle breeze, although hotter temperatures for the third round on what's traditionally known as "moving day''.

Victorian Jarrod Lyle started birdie-birdie to be six-under and three behind Poulter who's yet to tee off.

New Zealander David Smail emphasised that there were low scores out there when he posted eight birdies in a round spoiled only by a double bogey at the third for a six-under 65 to be five-under for the tournament.Titleist AP1 712 Individual Irons and Wedges

12.10pm A BIRDIE barrage has begun early in the third round of the JBWere Masters at Victoria Golf Club.

With the leaders due to begin at 1.20pm, the early starters have taken advantage of great conditions for the third consecutive day, with David Smail surging up the leaderboard.

The Kiwi veteran began the day at one over and quickly erased two opening birdies with a double-bogey six on the third.

But Smail has since peeled off another five birdies to storm to four under overall and into a tie for 10th, just five shots behind leader Ian Poulter.

Another at four under with a Titleist AP1 712 Individual Irons and Wedges is Queenslander Brad Kennedy. The recent New Zealand Open champion knocked in consecutive birdies to open his round and has just negotiated the tought third and fourth holes unscathed.
