What is your stance on the lock out?"I have two perspectives on the lockout. One perspective is of joy because even in dyer times there is victory. I'm personally using my time to make a positive impression for the youth that lack positive guidance. Secondly, it's saddening because there are a lot of charities and jobs suffering (Venue employees etc.) because the lack of revenue venues inquire."
To keep busy during the lock out, some other players have been doing everything from coaching high school teams, working out, to teaching in schools. What have you been doing to keep busy?
"In addition to maintaining a physical and mental regiment in efforts to give me the edge in games, I found a strong love in animals that laid dormit from childhood until now. Therefore, I became an ambassador of Charlotte Zoological Park here in NC. Also, growing up with having a Disc Jockey as your father, naturally familiarizes one with music and entertainment. That also induced the lifestyle in regards to: trends and fashion. Some other important facts during the offseason: I've been working with Hot 97 Street Soldier. My last deal was in May at Essex County College titled, "Push for peace."
If I were to take your Ipod, Who would be the top 5 most played artists be?
Tupac, Nas, 50 cent, Prince, and Earth Wind & Fire.
What are your favorite types of kicks and tees?
"Air Max or the Reebok Air Dirt Pumps. Tees, I have to be bias and say Peoples Cartel lol."
Is being a Carolina Panther everything you expected it to be?
"Being a Panther is everything I hoped for and more. Being tied to such a supportive community is always key in every young athlete's life.
Besides playing football, what do you do in your free time?
"Play music, pool, PS 3, or more out going events. I love to see comedy shows, movies, and amusement parks."
Now that you have gotten a little taste of what the NFL is like, do you think you came in prepared from U. of Virginia?
"Having a NFL style coach in Al Groh helped me mentally more than anything. Therefore, I believe retaining pertinent information through film, hardwork/ experience, and discipline are traits Groh helped me develop."
Do you still keep in contact with the program at Virginia?
"Yes, in fact most players are back in Charlottesville working out for the summer."
Where do you see yourself after your career in the NFL?
"Being heavily influential in the entertainment realm. Also, settled into community empowerment programs whether they be a Zoo or 501C opportunities. "
What do you think about the new Draftees that the Panthers picked up (Cam Newton, Terrell McCain, Brandon Hogan)?
"All are great additions and will be a great image for our organization."
What advice would you give to these new rookies?
"Use and abuse film studies. Make it apart of your lifstyle and daily routine."
Who had the biggest influence on you as you were growing up?
"My grandfather. He showed me so many things, and it's funny because some things he has showed or said to me are recently becoming more understanding."
What is your advice to Pee wee, high school, and college football players who want to play in the NFL?
"Find your niche and work as hard as you can to develop them. There are some guys with raw given talent, but no one is oblivious to hardwork… in fact it will be admired by your peers."
What is your favorite charity?
"William Wilson golfing event for Autism."
Now that you are in the NFL, what have you done to give back to the community?
Besides getting involved with William Wilson. I have also done an Easter basket give away at a DSS school in South Carolina. For protection purposes I cannot give up the name and address though..
Who was your greatest mentor during your time at Virginia?
"Mrs. Lily who is a chef at a dinning hall called the "The Castle" at UVA. She played an important part because she mirrored my grandmother. Therefore, seeing her was always a reminder of where I come from and my purpose."
