The Indian junction, Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi devastated the Italian-Kazakh pair, Daniele Bracciali and Galina Voskoboeva in the French Open Semi-Final on Wednesday. They gave a nerve-wrecking performance at the clay court in Roland Garros to get a straight set victory in 6-4, 6-2 which swayed their way to the French Open Final. The Indian duo is just one step away from the Grand Slam and this is the first time they are in the final round of this tournament.
They ended the game against unseeded Italian-Kazakh pair in just 70 minutes to enjoy the finalist position. From the opening set, their dominance was quite prominent. Although they missed two serves but bounced back during three break chances and ended the set with 6-4. During the second set, they played swiftly and smoothly without much attack from the rival side. Finally they manifested 76% serve share and got 16 points from the second set. From the entire match, they collected 64 points leaving their opponent with only 49 points.
Experiencing seven Grand Slams in mixed doubles, this will be the third Grand Slam final for Mahesh Bhupati with Sania Mirza. In 2008, they were the runners-up in Australian Open and in the following year, they won the championship title which was also the first and the only Grand Slam for Sania Mirza.
From the other match, Polish-Mexican duo, Klaudia Jans-Ignacik and Santiago Gonzalez made their way straight to the final to face the Indian pair when they thrashed the World No. 5, Indo-Russian pair, Leander Paes and Elena Vesnina in the semi-final on the same day. They got a prestigious straight set victory in 7-6 (2), 6-3.
From the very beginning of the match, the duo maintained their dominance over the Indo-Russian junction and faced a weak resistance from the opponent side which resulted in an easy and smooth way to the final. With excellent collaboration in their partnership, they ended the first set with 74% share and got through both the break chances in a superb way. But failing to show the same excellence in the two break points, they ended the set in a tie-breaker and finally got 7-6 (2).
In the second set, they made no mistakes and easily completing both the break chances, finished the match with a win. In a 76 minute match, they bagged 70 points to secure their position in the final. In the final, Indian pair is obviously in a favorable position because of their excellent performance throughout the tournament but still when two champion pairs meet at the final for the much desired Grand Slam, it is quite difficult to predict.
