Many young men across the country dream of being professional football players. Who can blame them? It is a great sport and the fame and fortune it brings to the players is what ordinary people could only dream of. The truth is only a few people actually make it. This guide will not guarantee that you will make it but it will at least drastically improve your chances.
Your best shot is to start early. Most teams have started their recruitment process from high school. Join a team during your high school years and you will actually have a better chance than someone who only started during college. This shows your passion and commitment to the game and your chances with scouts are increased.
The following steps will help increase your chances:
• Get to know the game in and out: By that I mean know what every player on the team does. Don't just concentrate on your position. This will help you work better with your team mates. Teamwork is the key.
• Practice: To get better at anything you have to practice. Even if you think you are the best you can be, try to push yourself harder. Always keep in mind that there are thousands, maybe even tens of thousands of boys fighting for the same position as you.
• Work Out: You have to always keep yourself in top shape if you want to make it in this sport. What use is a player that runs ten steps and is already gasping for air?
• Keep your grades up: For you to get a college scholarship you have to meet a minimum requirement otherwise all that training would have been for nothing. Don't get me wrong, train your butt off but also study your butt off. Also think of it as insurance. If by any chance you had to get an injury that would cost you your career, you would have backup with a college degree.
• Get an invite to the Combine and impress the scouts: Make sure while in college you stand out. You will get invited to the combine and have a chance to seriously impress the scouts. These scouts are responsible for drafting for pro teams. Getting invited increases your chances of getting drafted but not getting invited doesn't mean you have no chance of getting in.
Lastly I would like to say, what you need is both passion and practice because without passion and practice you will never be able to be great NFL player.
