American Football To Transform Sporting Mentality in India

American football is a popular sport in the USA that mostly amalgamates the movements followed by the earlier versions of football and rugby football. The game itself is an exhibition of prowess and strength that spectators like to see. Played between two teams of eleven, the rule of the game allows players to score points by advancing the ball into the opposing team's end zone. Also known as football or gridiron football in the United States, the American Football is about running with the ball either to throw it to a teammates or carry by own in order to reach the target zone. Unlike football in India, the points scored in American Football is based on carrying, catching, throwing and kicking the ball in order to pass the opponent's goal post.

In the year 2011, a few prominent entrepreneurs and entertainment executives from America and India formed an autonomous sporting body known as the Elite Football League of India (EFLI) with the perspective to drain professional American Football from the USA to India. This sports league is scheduled to start in November 2011 in the western Pune and is aiming to consolidate its position in the whole of South Asia. The league is financed by some prominent figures like former Green Bay Packers linebacker Brandon Chillar, Super Bowl-winning head coach Mike Ditka, former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin and former NFL quarterback Ron Jaworski. Both Ditka and Irvin are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Chillar is of Indian descent.

As far as league structure is concerned, the EFLI will start its initial session with eight teams from leading Indian cities that would consist of rosters, management and coaching staff. No doubt, players and coaches will be from India only, but they will be trained by professional American players or coaches. There is a revelation that the sporting body intents to persuade current rugby players of India to join American Football league in India on a pay package that would significantly higher than the rugby leagues. Similar strategy will apply in other South Asian countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan to attract a wide talent pool. This ensures that the intention behind introducing American Football in India by the EFLI is to capture the Indian marker and large customer base.

American Football is going to mesmerize Indian spectators in late 2012 when Pune would host the first of its kind, the Elite Football League of India (EFLI).

EFLI.com is the first professional American sports football league in India, launched with a hope to start a new chapter of American Football in India and Asia. Find American Professional Football League Schedule of matches and games from the official website of Elite Football League of India(EFLI).
