English Premier League 2011/12 Matchday 22: Man City vs Tottenham & Arsenal vs Man Utd

With Matchday 22 of the Barclay's English Premier League 2011/12 around the corner, expectations and tensions build up as four of the top five teams in the Premier League Table will be pitted in two matches.

This Sunday, current table-toppers, Roberto Mancini's Manchester City will be welcoming current 3rd place, Harry Redknapp's Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium. Shortly after that, Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United who currently at 2nd place will be visiting current 5th place, Arsene Wenger's Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

In their previous outings, the Manchester clubs had a field day with Manchester United pulverising an injury-ridden Arsenal, 8-2 at Old Trafford. Whereas, Manchester City trashed Tottenham 5-1 in their previous encounter at White Hart Lane.

In-form Tottenham will be looking forward to take the fight to their equally in-form opponent. This season, Tottenham have proved its mettle and have showed that they're worthy contenders for the title and with 46 points are only 5 points behind leaders Manchester City.

With Tottenham skipper, Ledley King suffering from hamstring injury, being doubtful and the unavailability of Emmauel Adebayor due to his loan terms from Manchester City, Jermaine Defoe will most probably be upfront alongside Dutchman, Rafael van der Vaart. Other injuries include William Gallas (calf), Sandro Raniere (calf) and Tom Huddlestone (ankle).

On the other hand although Manchester City will be minus skipper, Vincent Kompany due to his 4 match suspension in their FA Cup 3rd round 3-2 loss to Manchester United. In addition to that, Kolo Toure and Yaya Toure will not be available as they would be taking part in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. But on the flip side, Mario Balotelli and Micah Richards have been made available after the recovery of their respective injuries. All in all this game is definitely something that is not to be missed.

Meanwhile, London will be having its own clash as Manchester United will be paying old rivals, Arsenal, another visit. Arsenal seems to have recovered from their shaky start and will hope not to have a repeat of their last encounter at Old Trafford.

Arsenal still plagued with injuries with defenders Thomas Vermaelen, Kieran Gibbs, Bacary Sagna, Carl Jenkinson, Andre Santos and Francis Coquelin sidelined for the game. In addition to that, old warhorse, Thierry Henry and Spanish international Mkel Arteta both suffering from calf injuries and Jack Wilshere still recovering from his ankle injury last July remains doubtful.

However, Manchester united have much more happier news with the return of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling at the defence line following a collision between both players during their 3-2 victory over Manchester City. However, Darren Fletcher , Ashley Young and Tom Cleverley will remain sidelined for this game and so will Anderson who was injured during training.

Although the competitiveness between Arsenal and Manchester United have dimmed down during the recent past, this game will be nevertheless exciting.
Before these two crackers of games, we will be seeing 8 games on Saturday. Chelsea with 2 wins in a row will be visiting Norfolk. This would be an ideal opportunity for them to reach higher in the table.

Another game worth mentioning is the clash at the Reebok Stadium as Bolton will be facing Liverpool.
