American football is going to make a mark in India with the launch of Elite Football League of India (EFLI) in late 2012. The initial phase of the EFLI will be held in the western Pune with eight teams participating from across leading Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Goa, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Punjab and hosts Pune. Each team participating in the professional American Football league will exhibit their potentiality in two matches, thereby showing the tally of 56 games plus two play-off games to decide the top teams.
Taking American football to India is an attempt to globalise the game despite of knowing the fact that the country has a single-minded obsession with cricket and it would be hard to market it. But the EFLI is serious about investing in the sport as it anticipates long term benefits with economy growing by leaps and bounds for quite sometime.
The launch of EFLI in India is seen to strengthen the ties between the US and India with regard to business and politics. The professional American Football league hopes to draw the attention of US business conglomerates to export their entertainment products to share them with India.
