Visitors to Atlanta will find plenty of festivities to enjoy on New Year's Eve. There will be a number of activities surrounding the Chick fil A Bowl, ice skating in Centennial Olympic Park, and the 23rd Annual Peach Drop at Underground Atlanta. These festivities will include activities for families as well as adults.
The Chick fil A Bowl Parade will delight visitors young and old. The parade is scheduled on Saturday, December 31 from 12:30-2pm. This free event will feature floats, dance groups, marching bands, cheerleaders from Auburn University and the University of Virginia, and their team mascots. The parade route begins at Peachtree and Baker Streets, proceeds down Peachtree, then turns west on Andrew Young International Boulevard. The parade ends near the Georgia World Congress Center, where football fans can enjoy the Chick fil A FanFest. This is a great event to attend, even for those who don't have tickets to the game. There will be passing, receiving, and kicking games, as well as contests, obstacle courses, and a climbing wall. A giant Pep Rally will be led by cheerleaders from Auburn and Virginia. Food and Chick fil A Bowl merchandise will be available.
FanFest runs from 2-6pm and tickets are $15 per person. The game begins at 7:30pm in the Georgia Dome.
The outdoor ice skating rink at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta will be open on New Year's Eve from 10am-5pm. Skate sessions last 90 minutes, and tickets are $7 per person. Skate rental is an additional $2.
The 23rd Annual Peach Drop will take place on New Year's Eve at downtown's Underground Atlanta. The Peach Drop is the Southeast's largest New Year's Eve celebration. The free event features family oriented activities during the day and musical entertainment in the evening beginning at 6pm. Just before midnight the 800 pound peach will begin its descent, signaling the start of the New Year. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the Peach Drop. Daytime family friendly activities will include carnival rides, face painting, and young musical entertainers on the Budding Peach Stage.
Kenny's Alley in Underground will have live music beginning at noon. The musical group Kansas will headline the evening entertainment. The bars and clubs at Underground will stay open until 4am so that their patrons can continue to celebrate. Underground Atlanta is located at 50 Upper Alabama Street in downtown Atlanta.
