Everton Manager David Moyes - Will He Go or Will He Stay?

As a lifelong Everton Fan, I hope he decides to stay at Goodison Park.

Taking away my obvious selfish interest, let's take a look at Moyes, his tenure at Everton and the choices possibly available to him.

First of we must look back at the English First Division as it once was known. Of course from season to season, clubs changed owners, chairmen and directors and the result my have been an increase or decrease in the financial fortunes of those clubs and ultimately their capacity to spend on new and better players. Some clubs would generally perform well or reasonably well each season, others fared less of course, however it may be safe to say that any club with right backing, good manager and a certain amount of luck was able to win the League Championship.

Today however, we almost have a Super League with the Premier League consisting of clubs owned by multi-billionaire, usually foreign owners, or those clubs that can afford to spend as the former are able. Let's include Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool.

These clubs are dominating the top five positions and my humble opinion is that the other clubs are generally competing for six place.

So we have a position now where six and possible entry to Europe is a successful season for the majority of the division. Throw in a cup win to boot, this would become a very successful season.
So has Moyes been a success for Everton and therefore a successful Manager. One would have to say yes. He took over a club on its knees, kept them in the top division and has generally kept the top half of the table. Given the chronic lack of funding and limited squad, he must be judged as a success.

Ten years on and the club is in the same financial status. He loves the club, gets on very well with the Chairman and is adored by the fans. He wants to take Everton all the way. And loves it. Recent talks with Bill Kenwirght has confirmed this and we await developments during the summer break.

Will he go or will he stay? I think he will stay and let us consider some reasons why he should.

From whom would he accept a new position? Since none of the teams below Everton are really that better off, then those clubs would not be such a tempting prospect. Better the 'devil' you know!

Manchester United and Manchester City won't change, Arsenal neither unless it is the managers choice. Liverpool have made their choice of a Dalglish replacement so that would only leave Chelsea who by recent history would be more likely to look to Europe for a new leader with major successes. Besides, regardless of his track record at Everton, Moyes hasn't actually won anything.

Only, time will tell. I'm sure Bill Kenwright will eventually find a buyer for the club and has enough business sense to make Moyes an offer he won't refuse.
