Highland League: Cove denied by Forres keeper Knight’s heroics

A flawless goalkeeping display by Stuart Knight of Forres Mechanics saw him awarded man of the match in the game against Cove Rangers, although he was far from happy to win it.

The 1-1 draw left Forres two points behind leaders Cove with two games in hand. The goalkeeper complained: “I think a draw was a fair result. Me getting man of the match makes it look like Cove were the better side, but I don’t think that was the case.”

Neil Whyte’s 70th-minute volley was cancelled out soon after by Connor Scully’s impressive strike.

Elsewhere, Buckie won 1-0 at home to Keith and Wick enjoyed a 3-1 victory over Formartine. Turriff won 3-0 at Deveronvale while Huntly beat Clach 5-1. Brora defeated Rothes 1-0 and Lossiemouth won 2-0 in Lochaber to keep Fort William stuck at the bottom.

In the Breedon Aggregates Highland League Cup, Inverurie Locos beat Fraserburgh 2-0 and Nairn enjoyed an extra-time victory at Strathpsey.
