The Olympics are a platform for athletes to shine, and to inspire people around the World. Audiences marvel at how a singular person, whether competing by themselves or as a team, can push themselves to their absolute limit to win, overcome others and themselves to bring a medal home for their Nation. These Olympians become beacons of inspiration, and are looked up to as role models by the young ones around us who think 'Why can't I do that?!'. From running, swimming, athletics, skating etc. there always is going to be an athlete that takes your breath away with their talent and skill - and being able to watch stock footage of them on the internet is just brilliant -something which has really only come about since the year 2000. All the stock footage of the athletes that are mentioned in this article can all be viewed on YouTube and similar video sharing sites.
Torvill and Dean
Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are known as the top performers in ice skating history. There is a whole bundle of stock footage online which demonstrates why they are at the forefronts of everyone's minds when it comes to ice skating. The pair when skating exudes passion and beauty executed with effortless grace. The Bolero in the winter 1984 Olympics reinforces this, being a display of their strongest performance. It is said that no pair of skaters have since rivalled the skill of Torvill and Dean.
Nikolay Andrianov
Nikolay Andrianov won 15 medals in his time as an Olympic athlete, starting with his initial gold in the 1972 floor competition. There is plenty of stock footage on the internet showing how just how talented Nikolay was, even when the equipment is not as safe as modern day gymnastics. Unfortunately Nikolay died in March 2011 due to a degenerative neurological disorder in Vladimir, his hometown, where he was director of gymnastics at a sports school. A hero for the Soviets.
Michael Phelps
This amazing chap from the USA took a total of 16 medals from the Olympics in Beijing 2008. 8 of these were gold medals, making him not only the person with the most medals won in a single Olympic games (doubling the previous attempt of 8) but also beating Mark Spitz's gold medal record of 7 from Munich 1972. Phelps since Beijing has opened the 'Michael Phelps foundation' which focuses on developing the sport of swimming through healthier lifestyles. Michael Phelps has stated that he will take part in the London 2012 Olympics, however it will probably be his last, and he will be trying new events out.
These are just a few of the Olympic legends that live with us today, paving the way and inspiring people and athletes all over the World to do their best and push themselves to their limits. Stock footage online just makes watching these powerful athletes that much more accessible to audiences all over the world.
