COVE Rangers closed the gap on Forres Mechanics at the summit to just two points after a fine 3-0 victory at Lossiemouth.
The 2008 and 2009 champions punished the understrength hosts with a fine second-half display. An own goal by Kevin Flett gave Cove the advantage just two minutes after the break. Martin Johnston and Jordan Leyden then wrapped up victory.
Forres, whose game at Rothes was frozen off, retain two games in hand.
Keith’s Dean Donaldson scored first in the derby visit of Huntly, but the away side stormed to victory with goals by Barry Somers, Andrzej Kleczkowski and David Booth.
Gary Weir’s first-half double set Wick Academy on their way to a 3-1 win against Fort William. Sam Mackay wrapped up victory, with Darren Duncan on target for Fort.
A Mike McKenzie penalty deep into stoppage time salvaged a 2-2 draw for Deveronvale at Fraserburgh, while Jerry O’Driscoll’s second-half strike for Turriff was enough to defeat Brora Rangers 1-0 at the Haughs.
Other games called off were Inverurie v Clachnacuddin, Nairn v Buckie and Strathspey v Formartine.
