Watching Streaming Sports & Live Media Online: A Culture Of Viewership

Even though the standard consumer feels they are not getting quality TV at a fair price nowadays, cable television monthly rates continue to rise. Sports fans are tired of paying for additional sports packages and paid sports programming in order to watch their favorite teams. Want to watch all of the National Football League games on Directv? Pony up $300+ per year and you'll be fine. Same thing goes with the NBA, NHL, MLB, Formula One Racing, Premier and Champions League Soccer and all major sports leagues. So now where do consumers turn for a cheaper but just as broad alternative? Where else: The Internet.

Streaming media websites have been sprouting up over the past 2-3 years and should continue to thrive significantly in years to come. Why? The viewers have taken back some control from large media organizations and its not going to change any time soon. What do I mean by this? The ability to widely share and spread not only working files but also live video and media has changed the expectations of those interested in television and media in general. What is currently costing viewers hundreds of dollars per month should begin to diminish with the setup of sharing and social media. Why should a viewer pay for a service that is easily available online via any of the horde of streaming media websites? Lets look at at some examples in the world of sports.

Sites such as Justin.tv, UStream.tv and Channelsurfing.net are known as the godfathers of streaming television sites and have a huge following especially for watching live sports broadcasts. Love the National Football League and want to watch football online free? Each has a special section just for that. Live in Europe and prefer Formula One Racing? You can watch f1 live or formula 1 live by simply logging onto your internet connection and firing up your personal computer. Need to catch your favorite team from a live Champions League stream? Piece of cake. Most major sports leagues in the world.

People wonder why the large media organizations don't attempt to shut down sites that share their content. The answer is simple: More exposure utilizing a new method is never a bad thing, even at the expense of losing a few dollars. This is the way of the new media world online and media companies will find ways to join the crowd and profit from the online world of streaming media websites.
