Are the 49ers for Real?

The San Fransisco 49ers are having an outstanding season so far. With an 11-3 record they lead the NFC west by four games. Their best attribute this year has been the unforgiving defense. All year the 49ers defense has not let up a rushing touchdown, a very respectable mark to have. With a huge win over the Pittsburgh Steelers this past Monday night San Fransisco has proven themselves again.Week after week the 49ers have shown their superiority in the league and yet some sports analysts believe they are not real contenders.

Most people believe that their offense is not consistent enough to survive in the playoffs. Quarterback Alex Smith has not yet proven himself to be an elite quarterback in the national football league. Smith has 16 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions on the year so far, very respectable numbers. Also he has a 61.1% completion percentage
and a 91.1 quarter back rating which is 9th best in the NFL this season.

The defense only gives up 13.2 points per game which is number one in the NFL this year. Most of the defense's dominance has been against the run, as they allow only 71.5 rushing yards per game which is first in the NFL. With a plus 25 turnover ratio which is also tops in the NFL this year. The list goes on and on and yet they still have to prove themselves.

They have played a lot of tough teams this season as well, so you can't say they have an easy schedule. Their only three losses were against the Cowboys, Ravens, and an upset versus the Cardinals. All very good teams in the NFL this season, except for maybe the Cardinals. Although, the Cardinals have shown some signs of life this year with their new quarterback Kevin Kolb.

The coach of the 49ers Jim Harbaugh is doing a great job this season. This is his first year as their coach and he has really turned this team around. Considering last year the 49ers posted a record of 8-8, actually much better then the previous years. Harbaugh has really proved himself as an established head coach and continues to surprise us every week with his teams superior performances.

In closing, if Frank Gore continues to rush the ball as well as he has been doing there is no reason that the 49ers could not make it to the NFC championship. With their defense as tough as it is they can even surprise us in making a super bowl appearance. In my opinion, the 49ers are the real deal this year and have a great chance to win the super bowl.

I have been writing for the last ten years, but I haven't gotten serious about it until recently. For the last couple of years I have written a few novels. Now I plan to further my career and make a name for myself in article marketing.
