Teen misses PGA Tour cut by two strokes

"She played very well. Good putter, very good short game,"said Scott Gutschewski, one of Wie's playing partners. "I was veryimpressed with her short game, and she hits the ball straight. So apretty good combination for 15."

Wie played well beyond her years all week, but her inexperiencecaught up to her in those last four holes.

She ran into trouble on No. 6, when she put her first two shotsin bunkers. She still had a chance for par, getting within 20 feetof the cup. But her first putt ran alongside the left edge andrefused to drop, rolling about 5 feet by. She missed that one byinches, too, and had to take a double bogey, her first of the week.

"I guess I was too aggressive with my putt," she said. "Ihadn't made a bogey, and I didn't want to. It felt like astraightforward putt. If I'd hit it a little softer, it would havegone in."

The double bogey dropped her to 2 under, with more trouble tocome.

She pushed her tee shot on No. 7 so far right it bounced on thecart path. She got on the green from 35 yards out, but two-puttedfor another bogey, all but ending her chances for the weekend.

When her 14-foot birdie putt on No. 8 skirted the edge of thecup, the teenager from Hawaii sank to her knees. When she stood up,she looked skyward in disbelief.

"I just really realized how important the last six holes are,"she said. "I'll just have to notice that it's really important andtighten my screws up a little bit."

And there will be a next time. Though B.J. Wie said his daughterdoesn't have any other PGA Tour appearances scheduled, herlong-term goal is to play with the men. She's already played theSony Open twice, missing the cut by a stroke in 2004. She missedthe cut by seven strokes this year.

Wie is playing in the men's U.S. Amateur Public Links next weekat Shaker Run in Lebanon, Ohio.

"On the LPGA Tour, I made the cut on my fourth try," she said."My fourth try [on the PGA Tour] is coming up, so I'm reallylooking forward to that."

The ball dropped into the first row of the gallery about 40 feetfrom the green, but it would have been a lot farther had Lebo's legnot gotten in the way. Wie still had a tough shot, with her ball indeep grass.

But she chipped on, and when the ball rolled slowly into thehole, Wie thrust both of her arms triumphantly in the air beforeslapping hands with her caddie.

"If [Lebo] is reading the newspaper, I want to say, 'Thankyou,' and sorry for your pain," she said. "It turned out great."

Koreans hold off Sorenstam

Korean born Gloria Park, who has made Australia her home in recent years, captured her second win on the USLPGA Tour following a playoff with compatriot Hee-Won Han, to continue the winning ways of Koreans on tour this year.

Park joins Se Ri Pak and Mi Hyn Kim as Korean winners this season but there are several others also doing well. Hee-Won Han, was second earlier in the season at the Longs Drugs Challenge, Grace Park has had nine top tens in sixteen starts and even rookie Ara Koh was twelfth this week and they are just a few of the Koreans making their mark.

Gloria Park is in her third season on tour after qualifying at her second attempt in 1999. She was born in Seoul but spent some time in Sydney where she was three time Australian Junior Champion and the Australian Stroke Play Champion in 1997. She is still only 22 so a bright future awaits her. She is coached by Queenslander Ian Triggs whose stable also includes Rachel Teske and John Senden.

Hee-Won Han was rookie of the year last year and she has continued to develop as a player in her second season. She looks destined for big things.

Perhaps the most satisfying aspect of Park's win was the fact that she held off Annika Sorenstam who, I would imagine, most felt was the likely winner going into the final round. Sorenstam was tied with Park leading into round four and I am sure that her win is just that much sweeter knowing she has held off the world's number one. It won't do her confidence any harm either.

Karrie Webb produced a last nine of 32 to grab fourth just a shot behind Sorenstam, Rachel Teske was fifteenth, Mardi Lunn 31st, Wendy Doolan 40th and Fiona Pike 62nd.
Noboru Sugai has played just three events on the European Seniors Tour, they being the three British Senior Opens in 2000, 2001 and this year. That he was able to win with such limited experience in the trying conditions at Royal County Down and on such a quality course suggests, that now that he will get more starts in Europe, he will be a force to be reckoned with. The win also earns him starts at next year's British Open and the US Seniors Open in 2003.

Sugai was quite a prolific winner in Japan through the eighties. His last win was in 1990 when he won twice at the Golf Digest and Chunichi Crowns events. In the past few years he has played on a limited basis on the Japan Tour and very few Senior Tour events. That he is able to win such a significant event against such a good field on that basis is quite amazing.

Sugai had opened up a six shot lead heading into round four thanks largely to a marvellous 72 on Saturday in the most difficult of conditions. He struggled in the last round but so did those nearest to him although John Irwin, the Canadian, managed to close the gap to just two at the finish.

Christy O'Connor Jnr was alone in third a shot ahead of Scotland's John Chillas. Two other Japanese tied for fifth namely Seiji Ebihara and Katzunari Takahashi along with New Zealander Barry Vivian.

Pre tournament favourite Tom Watson struggled after a reasonable start to eventually finish 14th after a last round 79.

Ross Metherell was the leading Australian in 21st place, Mike Ferguson 24th, Noel Ratcliffe 25th, Ian Stanley the defending champion, 31st, Brian Jones 35th, Geoff Parslow 42nd, Bryan Smyth 44th and Bob Shearer 49th.

New Zealander Bob Charles, last year's runner up, who finished 12th in the tournament was the leading Super Senior (for those over 60) ahead of Neil Coles.

There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic for England in Euro 2012. They are a very well organised squad that can go far if they will play as a unit.
In recent months there have been many changes in the England squad: Steven Gerrard is back as captain, Rio Ferdinand is at home and there is a new manager, Roy Hodgson. England were unbeaten in qualifying and after the terrible performance in South Africa, everyone would have been happy with that result. There were however some worrying signs late on in the campaign as they had two draws against Montenegro and a home draw against Switzerland. Even most worrying was the defeat against Netherlands in which was clear that England were still far short of the Dutch standard.
I don't think there is any shame in saying that this time England fans are accepting that their team is not good enough the likes of Spain, Germany and Holland. There have been some generational changeovers and the Three Lions will need at least another two years before they can close this qualitative gap.
Roy Hodgson has only had few weeks to work with the squad and this means that he pretty much has a free hit at Euro 2012. If he fails, media and fans will not be able to held him responsible and they will focus mostly on the FA and John Terry. Unless Hodgson doesn't do an extraordinary terrible job than it should be able to keep his reign save from any pressure after the tournament.
The most interesting think about Hodgson is his character. He is intelligent and courteous but can also show a sharp temper. Don't expect revolutions as he has his tactical conservatism that may be positive after all for England. The star of the England squad is Wayne Rooney and his absence in the first two months is a major blow for England. Rooney is the match winner of the squad and without him in the first two matches England is under severe threat of an early elimination.
Hodgson's key player is Steven Gerrard who have to step up for his country as he has been given more and more responsibilities in this tournament. Many fans believe that he is inconsistent but this could be a benefit as for England he will only need to do six big games to help the team go far in Euro 2012.
In Poland and Ukraine he will play as a support striker and considering that Rooney is not going to be around he has a very good chance of becoming England's top scorer at Euro 2012.
If Gerrard is the star, than John Terry looks like the natural choice as England's rock. He has struggled sometimes this season but he has the right experience to leave an impact in this tournament. England can also count on some very interesting youngsters: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a player who can definitely make an impact at this tournament. England are struggling upfront and the decision to bring him has been spot on.

Spain Vs Italy Match Report

Though the Group C encounter, between Champions Spain and Italy ended in a draw, with both teams scoring one goal each. But the match had enough of action to make it a perfect encounter between two power packed teams.

The game started with an attacking mode, and it was the same all through. However, the first break through came in the 61st minute when substitute Antonio Di Natale gave Cesare Prandelli's side lead.

Italy failed to maintain their lead for long, as four minutes later Cesc Fabregas equalized for the world champions.

Vicente Del Bosque said his Spain side had chances to win a "quite balanced" opening game against Italy but, like Cesare Prandelli, sounded satisfied with the 1-1 draw.

The defending champions had better chances of winning the game, as they had maximum possession of the ball and got more corner opportunities than Italy.

But they failed each time, thanks the brilliant keeping by Buffon. Chelsea striker Fernando Torres missed two glorious late chances after coming off the bench to replace Fabregas.

The first half was dominated by Italy, as Spain clearly lacked a striker and were guilty of over-playing on several occasions. However, towards the end of the game, Spain had more of the opportunities as they continuously kept testing the Italian defense.

However, Italian coach Cesare Prandelli went into the match with a 3-5-2 formation, with Daniele De Rossi lining up in defence. Emanuele Giaccherini was also given his maiden bow for the Azzurri at left wing-back

Meanwhile for Spain, the pre-match headline was the inclusion of Cesc Fabregas as the man who put into forward with a 'false No.9' role, ahead of recognized strikers Fernando Torres and Fernando Llorente.

However at the end, it seemed that both the teams were satisfied with their opening game, as both coaches acknowledged the fact that, both the teams were equally poised.

Spanish team seemed unhappy with the pitch as they felt it should have been watered in order to facilitate a passing game.

"I am sure that with a quicker pitch we would have seen a better game."

Waste King helps Football Club to achieve its goals

In a way, our support for St Margaretsbury FC is based on a similar premise because, after 118 years of providing opportunities in its locality for people to play football, it would be disappointing to see such a valuable local resource go to waste because of a lack of up-to-date resources."

The football club, based in Stanstead Abbotts - and originally called 'Stanstead Abbotts' when it was formed in 1894 - moved to its current headquarters and changed its name in 1962. The club's Chairman, Gary Stock, commented: "The club couldn't enjoy its level of facilities without help from such people as Waste King."
